Free Skate Mag - Biography

Free Skateboard Magazine is the new pan-European skateboarding title. When Factory Media decided to stop printing Kingpin Magazine in April 2015, the Kingpin Editor in Chief, the Online Editor and the Photo Editor left the company to form Free. The award winning team consisting of Arthur Derrien, Will Harmon and Sam Ashley took it upon themselves to preserve print media in skateboarding for the European audience. Free Skateboard Magazine will be free and available in all the best skate shops in Europe and select shops worldwide. Premium skateboard photography is still an essential part of our culture and like the majority of skateboarders and brands, the guys at Free are convinced that print is still the best way to present it.

That being said, their model wouldn’t be complete without a dedicated online following. Their goal is to make the best skateboarding in Europe accessible to every skateboarder on the planet and they knew this wouldn’t be achievable without the help of the rapidly growing social media networks and website. The launch of freeskatemag.com was imminent and after hitting the 5000 followers mark on Instagram in the first week they were confident that replicating the online growth they brought to Kingpin (from 250K page-views/month to 2.2M page-views/month in a year) is well within their reach.

At Free they view their print, website and social media as equally valuable assets, working hand
in hand towards the promotion of skate content in a creative and effective way. It’s the synergy between these three platforms that elevates them above all other European skateboard media outlets and puts them in a unique position to work with brands.
